Co-PI Cawley is the Director of Climate Research and Engagement at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science.

His work centers around developing programs that facilitate multi-directional learning between stakeholders in science - policymakers, expert scientists, and publics. He works to build emotional and intellectual connections to scientific data and content through participatory program design, deliberative public forums, community science projects, oral histories, and listening sessions.

Cross-CAP Collaboration on Coastal Flooding in North Carolina and Hawai’i

Team members at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, and the Museum Life & Science collaborated with the Pacific RISA team to expand the Sunny Day Flooding Project, which tracks coastal flood risks through community-engaged flood modeling in North Carolina and Hawaiʻi.

Oral Histories with Tribal Elders

In collaboration with the Museum of Cherokee Indian (MCI) and the Kituwah Adult Language Program, the Carolinas CAP team are working to archive the richness of the Cherokee language as a direct expression of the Tribe’s traditional knowledge and connection to place.
